Bachelor of Engineering Program in Electrical-Mechanical Manufacturing

Recognizing that most present day industrial production equipment is computerized, the need for engineers with the capability to understand and apply electrical, mechanical and computing principles in manufacturing has driven Kasetsart University to develop an interdisciplinary program integrating various engineering disciplines to meet demand and contribute to the industrial progress of the country. This has made Kasetsart University the first university in Thailand to offer a Bachelor degree in Electrical-Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering (EMME), made possible through the collaboration of the Department of Electrical Engineering and the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Kasetsart University.

Curriculum

Students in EMME can choose to specialize in either of the following fields:

– Mechatronics and Automation
– CNC Technology and Robotics
– Product and Component Design
– Manufacturing Technology
The major engineering courses for the EMME program include the following:

Design Engineering
Introduction to CAD/CAM, Machine Design, Machine Parts Design, Computer-aided Design, Computer-aided Engineering, Product Design
Manufacturing Engineering
Fluid Mechanics, Machine Design, Mechanics of Machinery, Fluid Power, Automatic Control, Heat Transfer and Refrigeration
Electrical Engineering
Electric Circuit Analysis I, Electric Circuits and Systems I & II, Electromechanical Energy, Conversion I, Instruments and Control Systems, Digital Circuits and Microcontrollers
Manufacturing Engineering
Conventional & NC Machines, Manufacturing Processes, Molds and Dies, CNC Technology I & II, CNC Machine Retrofitting and Controller Design, Computer-aided Manufacturing, Industrial Materials and Robotics, Instruments & Precision Measurements, Principles of Operation and Production

In order to meet graduation requirements, students must complete a minimum of 149 credits. They also have the option to take part in a 6-month internship with participating industries.

Facilities

To provide on-hand training to students, the Department of EMME provides laboratories equipped with modern facilities that include: CAD/CAM/CAE, CNC Turning and Milling machinery, Injection Molders, Mechatronics and Automation Systems and Metrology equipment. These laboratories are supported and hosted by the Research and Development Institute for Industrial Production Technology, or RDiPT.

Faculty Members

The EMME program is taught by professors from the Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering departments, with over 85 instructors, of which more than 80% hold PhDs. Moreover, noted professionals and guest lecturers from the industrial sector are occasionally invited to share their views and perspectives and provide students with opportunities to learn about current development trends and industry needs.
